One piece is more about the adventure than being on the latest episode. You'll never like op this way. The reason many people like it is because of the strawhat's adventure and funny things along with foreshadowing and hype for characters introduced hundreds of episodes before they actually show their skills or even their faces.
12 episodes of poorly paced anime so that would be like 3 and a half hours, take away the filler and tighten the slow anime pacing, and you get left with maybe 2 and a half hours of material. Then tighten the pacing and you can easily turn those 12 short episodes into 2 hours of well paced prime time television.
